DeSantis Press Conference draws Angry Protest in Orlando

On the 27th of August, Florida’s racist, fascist, homophobic governor Ron DeSantis staged a short-notice press conference inside a government building in Orlando. Protesters outside were furious with his 207(g) programs, his concentration camp building, and his witch-hunt against the LGBTQ community. The recent uproar over rainbow sidewalks at Pulse and elsewhere has cast the governor’s Christian Nationalist hate for the GLBTQ community into stark relief.

Some of the protesters blew horns to ensure the protest could not be hidden fronm reporters inside. Cops responded with threats of arrest, at which point protesters began chanting louder than the horns. DeSantis knew better than to attempt an outdoor protest in Orlando, a city that despises him and everything he stands for! In the end, he had to come out sometime. Protesters staked out all possible exits. When he pulled out in his black SUV, protesters managed to approach, one yelling “Ron DeSantis you fascist piece of shit!”

Veteran arrested for burning US flag in front of the White House

On the 25th of August, a military veteran responded to Trump’s unlawful executive order concerning flag burning by burning a US flag himself right in front of the White House. Yes he was arrested, and no this arrest is not legal given the 1989 Supreme Court ruling that legalized flag burning.

Big fat middle finger to Trump from someone not afraid to fight for the Constitution and remember their oath. I believe “all enemies foreign and domestic” comes to mind here concerning Trump.

When this video was made it was reported as a detainment but later reports indicate he was actually arrested. This is going to burn a LOT of flags, and for a veteran to take the lead and do it first weakens a lot of what Chump is going to say about it.

Protesters show up at site of proposed Camp Baker ICE concentration camp

On the 23ed of August, protesters arrived at the former Baker Correctional Institution. This former prison was closed for human rights violations, now DeSantis wants to reopen it as a concentration camp for ICE.

The protest was small but took place as drenching rain faded to sprinking rain, at a site roughly 2/3’eds of the way from Jacksonville, FL to lke City, FL on US 90. As the protest ended there was an ugly incident of unknown intent. As protesters were loading up their cars, a truck presumably associated with the prison project drove into the driveway to the field the cars were in and blocked it. The truck was between the two police cruisers on either side of the driveway and conversation between them could be heard. As soon as someone got a camera up aimed at this, they wrapped up their conversation and in minutes the truck was gone and the exit route was open. Unknown if that was random chance with that truck having business there anyway, a deliberate “fake kettle” psy-op, or something else.

All of this as DeSantis says he is “undeterred” by the Federal court order to shut down Alligator Auschwitz in the Everglades within 60 days.

NBC live broadcast from DC (covering Trump) disrupted with tethered balloons for Gaza

On the 22nd of August, activists at the DC media encampment used balloons on a tether to inject a pro-Gaza message into the broadcast by entering the camera view. NBC kept changing camera angles in a futile attempt to dodge this disruption from the air. Finally they gave up and switched to a background that appeared to be generated from stock B-roll footage. On this day, Gaza’s friends achieved air superiority over NBC’s silence on Gaza.

Orlando LGBTQ activists repaint Pulse rainbow crosswalk erased by DeSantis

On the 22nd of August, LGBTQ activists chalked back the colors erased by DeSantis from the Pulse rainbow crosswalk for the second day in a row. This time however, the chalk was a warmup-and effective concealment for what came next.

Next came paint over and soaking into the chalk, in colors matching the chalk. In a few minutes, activists chanting “our history will not be erased” succeeded in restoring the rainbow crosswalk for real. Two local cop cars and one FL Highway Patrol car drove by without stopping. It is unknown if they were deterred by their short numbers vs the crowd,didn’t realize the chalk had now turned to paint, or their masters knewthe political consequences of attacking LGBTQ activists at Pulse would be exceptionally unpleasant. As of the night after there are no known arrests from this direct action.

It was at Pulse that a homegrown terrorist representing DAESH/ISIS killed 49 members of our community and wounded 53 more. This was the worst mass shooting in US history at that time. DAESH differs only in branding from what DeSantis and his minions as well as much of Trump’s administration are pushing. Much of their programs are the same. Daesh attacked Pulse, now DeSantis is attacking the memorial to those we lost.

The night after the crosswalk was repainted, the State of Florida reportedly sent yet another road crew to again paint over the community’s work.

Protest against DeSantis erasing rainbow crosswalk at Pulse temporarily restores rainbow pattern

On the 21st of August, a substantial crowd gathered at the Pulse Memorial. Sometime the previous night, Christo-Fascist governor DeSantis’s minions had painted over the rainbow crosswalk.

Part of the protest was chalking over the paint and restoring the rainbow pattern of the crosswalk in defiance of the Governor’s bigoted demands. For now it was done in chalk.

Orlando CAN legally defy this demand that rainbow crosswalks be removed. Doing so requires boycotting the state’s highway funds, nothing more. Better to tax Disney and major businesses to pay for road upkeep or alternately defer road maintainance until this war is over instead of kneeling to Fascists in the name of hate.

Alligator Auschwitz DEFEATED in Federal court, closure within 60 days ordered

DC report: Go-Go Party takes over 14th and U area as a craven Trump “patrols” elsewhere

Trump’s “Patrol” of DC with his Gestapo and SS seems to have been a “search and avoid” style joke. On 14th st where there have been so many confrontations a big and peaceful go-go party took control of most of the sidewalk. Trump meanwhile was reported to be somewhere in the Navy Yard area.

Vietnam Veteran Condemns National Guard Deployment To DC

He walked around the khaki covered Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) military vehicles at Union Station on Saturday with a sign over hung his shoulders. It read “ICE, National Guard, DEA Get Out of Our House,” reflecting the collective feeling DC citizens have towards the police state DC has become.

The three MRAPs parked outside are quite imposing when one stands next to them. They don’t appear to be outfitted with machine guns or live ammunition and the sergeants nearby are friendly and engaged the public professionally when approached, but they were not tasked to reach out to the public like public affairs officers. They are here to show power. They are here to tell the public they have been to war and aren’t afraid to fight another one. They are here to impose fear.

Protest at Orlando TV 9 WFTV remembers six journalists murdered by IOF, demands end to corporate media complicity

On the 16th of August, pro-Palestine protesters gathered at the offices or Orlando’s WFTV (TV 9) television station. The protest and vigil remembered five al-Jazeera journalists murdered when Israel bombed their tent, plus an independent journalist found dead a month after disappearing. Protesters demanded that US media such as WFTV stop parrotting Israeli propaganda that has the effect of excusing the killing of journalists among so many other things. In particular, they need to start calling this genocide what it is: genocide.
