Defiance Of Trump Regime Rises As It Creates Many Major Crises

Washington DC—The Nation’s Capital and outlying region usually sees a protest or two on any weekend. But Saturday saw so many street actions against Trump policies it was difficult to keep track of them. In fact it was impossible to be in the dozen or more locations of the actions at the same time.

The main actions:

Tesla Takedown Boycott Line Week Eleven

El Salvadoran Embassy

At the Salvadoran Embassy a group of activists brought hand made signs and posters to challenge El Salvador’s authoritarian Nayib Bukele for his role in confining and denying release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran legally seeking American citizenship in the U.S. He was kidnapped by ICE agents and illegally flown to El Salvador in defiance of a U.S. District Court Order, shacked at CECOT prison after falsely being accused by the Trump regime of being a gang member. The Department of Justice later admitted his illegal arrest was due to an administrative error but still refused the Supreme Court order to facilitate his return.

This story has captured world attention and has galvanized resistance against the Trump regime. The U.S. Judiciary has repeatedly ruled against the Government over its mishandling of the legal status and physical status and the rights of Habeas Corpus of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

At the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), hundreds of Federal employees, CFPB Union members, and supporters, picketed outside its headquarters on 17th Street over the takeover and takedown of that agency by DOGE infiltrators. Recent Reductions in Force as the result of Elon Musk’s DOGE operations inside the building have been stopped by court order. The action has been one of many which DCMG has covered since early February when DOGE operatives first forced their way into the CFPB headquarters building.

50501 Action At the White House

The Hands Off action of April 4, two Saturdays ago drew millions into the streets across the country. Washington DC saw tens of thousands of protesters with some reports claiming between 50 and 100 thousand joining in.

Hundreds descend on Tampa ICE headquarters in 50501 protest

On the 19th of April, protesters deployed nationwide for another round of 50501 protests. Threats of heavy policing including by ICE were called and found to be bluffs.

One of these protests was in Tampa, where protesters marched on ICE’s offices in the Dept of Homeland Security building. Protesters demanded that all deportees in CECOT or elsewhere be brought home-and that ICE be abolished outright.

Contrary to the threats of ICE deployment and enhanced policing, cops kept their distance and most of them stayed out of sight. No arrests or injuries were reported, and very few Trumpers showed up to heckle or yell from their cars. Protesters got in, made their demands, and got out unopposed.

This was the day before Trump’s “border security” review that mentions the Insurrection Act is due back. The report has been partially leaked: Hegseth et all are recommending a NO on the Insurrection Act or martial law. Few want to enter the US now with Nazis running the country so few border crossings, and perhaps this “mission” is proving unpopular in the military.

Tampa SDS holds protest for free speech, against ICE on campus

On the 18th of April, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) held a protest near University of S Florida (USF). The protest demanded the right of free speech, ICE off campus, and an end to deporting students who protest for Palestine.

This was on the National Day of Action to defend Higher Education. The protest was small because as a “banned” organization SDS cannot table on campus and similarly promote their work in real space on University grounds.

US Rep Kathy Castor’s Tampa town hall draws protest, disruption over her support for genocide in Gaza

On the 15th of April, US Rep Kathy Castor (D-FL) held a town hall at Hillsborough High School in Tampa, FL. Protesters showed up outside and disruptors slipped inside and shouted down the event. Activists were furious about her very public support for the murderous IOF in Palestine. The AIPAC money she accepts is another point in contention.

Disruptors were NOT succcessfully spotted in advance, they were able to pick good moments and engage the event by shouting down the love of genocide. They were escorted out afterwards but at that point they were “mission accomplished.”

Protesters at ICE headquarters in DC demand release of Mhamoud Khalil.

On the same day Trump brazenly threatened to deport “home grown citizens” to CECOT, protesters descended on ICE’s headquarters in Washington DC.

In the heart of the Imperial Capital, they demanded the immediate and unconditional releaase of Mhamoud Khalil, who was kidnapped by ICE for no stated reason other than his pro-Palestine activity at Columbia University. Protesters in front of ICE’s national HQ in DC emphasized “protesting is not a crime” while demanding ICE get off all campuses.
Mhamoud Khalil in fact has not been charged with any crime or even “immigration violation,” rather Trump told the Dept of State to revoke his Green Card so they could arrest and deport him without any legal reason at all. Had he so much as spit on the sidewalk he would have been charged.

At this point, ALL LAW in the US may be dead or dying at least at the Federal level.

By brazely taking Mhamoud Khalil hostage, ICE dipped their toes in the waters of arbitrary detention and possible deportation TO A CONCENTRATION CAMP of anyone who dares to protest and at any time.

ICE has become Trump’s political police, combining the roles of the SS and the Gestapo in Nazi-occupied Europe. Countries around the world have issued travel warnings about the dangers of the United States under Trump.

Arlington (near DC): Weather Doesn’t Stop #TeslaTakedown Boycott Line On Week Ten

Arlington, VA—There were fewer at Arlington Tesla boycott line Saturday but that didn’t stop Tesla Takedown die-hards from braving a cold windy weather day to draw honks and give rounds of cheers to passing motorists. Some were caught flat-footed by the brisk and stiff wind as they underdressed and suffered through the cold. But they still braved it.

The cold weather was soon forgotten because someone brought a speaker on a wagon and boomed resistance dance music to the line. Then they spontaneously did what comes naturally with good music. They joined in dance and warmed themselves by it. And this particular week the boycott line ran for two straight hours. Some had also been at the earlier Rockville Tesla Takedown drew over 200.

Thousands protest against Trump and Musk in Tampa in #50501 protest

One of over 1300 “50501” protests took place at Tampa City Hall in Tampa, FL. Thousands showed up, the sidewalks were already packed 1/2 hour before the published start time.

The sidewalks on both sides of the street were lined with wall to wall protesters. Such chants as “No Trump, no KKK no Fascist USA” and “Lock him up” filled the air. The crowd included huge numbers of mainstream liberals who might have never been at a protest before, reinforced by seasoned veterans of activism. As always at these, Elon Musk was singled out for his extremist assaults on social programs, and Teslas were called Swasticars in signs carried by some of the protesters.

Security teams kept an eye out for any trouble from the far-right, well aware that police will NOT defend protesters from assaults by car and maybe not from being shot at. There had been direct threats by the Proud Boys to infiltrate 50501 protests and “instigate” violence statewide but they chumped out. They might have somehow found enough brains not to start something they could not finish. Trump may want this as an excuse for civil war, but it’s the Proud Boys not Trump who would be at the bottom of any resulting pile.

There were single-digit numbers of other fash at Kissimmee, and maybe 20 forced-birthers in Tallhassee who soon left as thousands showed up there too.

Nationally, it seems any moderate size or larger city got over 1,000 protesters, and the DC protests (there was a Hands off DC protest and a Palestine protest that marched on ICE) got anywhere from 40K to over 100,000 depending on whose reports are correct.

Tampa Pride cheapened by police contingent and harassed by Fundies but still went strong

On the 29th of March, Tampa Pride again took to Ybor City streets. Allowing police participation was especially inappropriate this year. The same Hillsborough County Sheriff’s department that harasses sex workers and may be ordered to close down Gay clubs as Trumpism spreads was still welcome in Pride!

A second sour note was sounded by a few Christian nationalists who mixed with the crowd to preach lies and hate, but didn’t gain any apparent converts. Their numbers were in the single digits.

For all that the parade was big and boisterous. The crowd looked thinner than in past years, unknown if that’s due to mass LGBTQ flight out of Florida, people still here but keeping their heads down, or just where I was standing along the parade route near the finish

Tense scene including armored vehicle at Kamp Krome concentration camp protest

https://archive.org/details/miami-kamp-krome-protest-silent-video

(video is silent, sent to me after liberation from FB, sound may not have cooperated)

On the 29th of March, protesters showed up at the infamous Kamp Krome concentration camp in Miami, FL. The various stormtroopers protecting this hellhole were apparently very displeased to see protesters. They even brought out an armored vehicle but protesters stood their ground. Although these armored vehicles are widely referred to as tanks, this is an MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle) rather than a tank.

Kamp Krome is an ICE detention facility packed to over 4,000 people in a capacity rated for a few hundred. At least three people have died at Kamp Krome, food and even WATER are scarce for detainees there.
