DC #NoKings reportback from DC Media Group:

Washington DC—They came by the 10,000s dressed as frogs, unicorns, squirrels, cats, and ordinary citizens. Many wore yellow as a sign of unity and joy while some wore pussy-hats, a throwback to the historic Women’s March held on January 21, 2017. On that day nearly a million stood strong together against Donald Trump’s closed-society agenda, far eclipsing his meekly attended inauguration the day before.

And now in 2025, 8 years later, people power rose to oppose the Trump threat to democracy. The people handily rejected his authoritarian agenda and his chipping and chopping away the republic’s foundations. Institutions had unexpectedly buckled one after another, falling like dominos to his compliance demands issued over the first 9 months of his Project 2025 road map. Law firms, universities, corporations, the press, and the congressional party members of Trump himself had ceded their power and capitulated to the unitary leader. And it was this stunning collective betrayal by nearly every venerable institution that should have remained intact that wakened the people to take action, making them realize that they were the last column standing in the republic

The people arrived by foot walking across bridges, by metro trains, and buses, asserting their right to demonstrate as provided in the First Amendment. They came by the thousands, then ten-thousands, and then more kept arriving. And despite a barrage of earlier labels from MAGA party leaders, they thronged through DC in resolved defiance to assert their power.

And on Saturday October 18, the last column of resistance stood loyally and firmly in place. One could hear and feel the building crescendo of the people as they marched and as their chants and their drum beats echoed from the glass and concrete high rise buildings as they passed. The opposition was led by lines of people carrying “No Kings” and Abolish-ICE banners. Many people dressed in animal costumes to mock a president and his cabinet who had governed like a king with courtiers: the people had their say and they were keenly awake and they had risen to reject his authoritarianism.

And it was a scene repeated in major metropolitan cities across the country—and while a final number of those rallying and marching will not ever be accurately counted, it was estimated to be in the millions. New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, all saw massive protests. Many smaller cities also held rallies. Rallies were also reported worldwide in sympathy for Americans patriotically standing in for the remnants of their republic.

Emergency protest held at Tampa courthouse against threatened deportation of a NURSING MOTHER

On the 15th of October, asylum seeker and nursing mother Mabelyn Hernandes Diaz was at serious risk of being kidnapped by ICE after an unrelated court hearing in Tampa’s Federal courthouse. She has no prior “criminal” record. Community activists showed up both out front and inside the courtroom to deter ICE.

As of the end of the day, ICE did not get Mabelyn into their filthy hands, but this matter is not over yet. Stay tuned…

Emergency protest for Gaza at MacDill AFB after Tampa resident kidnapped from flotilla by IOF

On the 9th of October, pro-Palestine activists showed up to protest at Tampa’s MacDill Air Force Base. This is the headquarters of CENTCOM, responsible for the military side of US imperialism in the Middle East. Protesters crossed and recrossed the street in the crosswalk, setting up a soft or intermittant blockade. Cops were a no-show, in sharp contrast to the Veteran’s civil disobedience a while back at the same site that was met with both arrests and police violence.

A special demand was that a Tampa resident being held by Isra-Hell after being abducted on the high seas in international waters be released.

Tampa: Pro-Palestine activists remember two years of genocide and war.

On the 7th of October, Tampa area pro-Palestine activists including many from Palestine gathered in a park near the Federal courthouse. In addtion to speakers, the national anthem of Palestine was played over the sound system. Afterwards, protesters formed a circle for a candlelight vigil at which some of the names of the fallen were read. Most were children or teenagers.

One of the speakers earlier reminded everyone that Oct 7 was when Palestine forcibly broke out of what had been an Israeli-run open-air prison. In that sense, Oct 7 may have been history’s largest prison break. It was complete with the prison walls being both flown over and bulldozed down.

Pro-Palestine protesters at Orlando City Hall call for intifada , revolution on global day of action

On the 4th of October, pro-Palestine protests took to the streets around the world. In Orlando, protesters were not deterred by rain-and NOT deterred by the rapid and violent escalation in the US of all things politics. If anything it seems to have stirred people up.

Protesters demanded victory for the Palestinian resistance, and called for not only intifada but revolution. Often that is a call for intifada not only in Palestine but here in the US as well and that goes double now.

Note that this was the same day someone from CPB or ICE shot an anti-ICE rapid response team member in Chicago, sparking another street battle there.

Orlando: Supporters of Global Sumud Flotilla take to the water with banner and Palestinian flag

On the 1st of October, protesters supporting the Global Salmud Flotilla rented two of the “swan boats” on Orlando’s Lake Eola for a solidarity action as the flotilla reached the point of maximum risk. This was as IOF pirate ships harassed the flotilla and took hostages including multiple US residents from some of the boats. Many others evaded this attack, saturating it with sheer numbers.

UPDATE 2AM: as this is published, one of the flotilla vessels has penetrated to within 9 miles of the Gaza shoreline.

UPDATE: this is a list of confirmed US hostages taken from some of the flotilla vessels by the IOF earlier today:

  1. Torleif Stumo (MA)
  2. Jasmine Ikeda (WA)
  3. Geraldine Ramirez (AZ)
  4. Stephen Wahab (OR)
  5. Leila Hegazy (NY)
  6. Christopher Hausler (US citizen)
  7. Alexander Colston (NY)

Netanyahu’s meeting with Trump draws protesters to the White House

On the 29th of September, Trump and Netanyahu made a “deal” for the future of Gaza without the input of anyone who lives there or any Resistance faction. Same idea as Trump and Netanyahu carving up a cake with the imperialist knife of settlement and colonization.

Furious protesters showed up outside the White House chanting “Bibi is not welcome here,” and flying Palestinian flags as well as featuring speakers. Lightly redacted footage from an anonymous participant in the action

Chalking protest at Orlando City Hall invokes “Rebellion” and “Resistance” as times darken

On the 28th of September, courageous #LGTBQ
activists showed up with Chalk in front of Orlando’s City Hall. There was zero police opposition. State Police would have expected us at Pulse not City Hall. Orlando’s government for all their own issues does NOT seem to by loyal to Trump or DeSantis.

Yes, there was rainbow chalking at the ramps feeding two crosswalks. Between DeSantis’s thuggish behavior and the violent threats from Der Fuhrer Donald Trump it seems that the rules of engagement may have changed radically. In spite of the greatly elevated risks of peaceful protest against an openly Fascist regime, people showed up anyway. That is the courage of warriors!

This went down in the teeth of such earlier incidents at Pulse as arrests for walking in a crosswalk with chalked shoes, a violent assault, and a threat of armed attack.

Five Veterans arrested outside MacDill AFB in Tampa for stepping into the street with a pro-Palestine banner

On the 18th of September, members of Veterans for Peace showed up with an anti-genocide banner at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. The protest turned into a furious and very angry scene as cops pounded on the protesters and arrested five of them.

MacDill AFB is the headquarters of CENTCOM, which handles all US operations in the Middle East. This base also played a role in the bombing of targets in Iran. It is actually surprising they haven’t had a lot more problems with protesters given their role.

MacDill can be compared to a hypothetical WWII German Luftwaffe base used to coordinate aid to Japan for the Pacific Front. THAT’S how juicy a protest target MacDill is.
