Chaos in Dupont Circle: Two stabbings, a shooting, and a stampede

Early evening on June 7 after WorldPride, the crowd had reclaimed Dupont Circle. It was crowded but there were still a lot of cops. Then two people were stabbed and one was shot in a possibly unrelated incident.

Cops again seized Dupont Circle, which changed hands for the 3ed time in the weekend. Shortly after I arrived on the scene, I heard a loud BOOM, more like a heavy firework than a pistol, but sound can do strange things. This may or may not have been the shooting itself. Either way, the crowd that had just been pushed out of the park stampeded, fortunately not very far. I didn’t see anyone get trampled at least.

Later that night, the cops had closed what looked like a 1 block radius around Dupont Circle. An incredible number of cops were on the scene, seemed like way too many for two stabbed and one shot. The cops simply do NOT care about the public to that extent. This in turn raises questions about their real intent.

Many anti-Trump/anti-Fascist messages at WorldPride in DC

The WorldPride parade in DC was far more political and far less corporate than any prior Pride march I have seen in DC. Probably due to Trump’s anti-DEI crusade, most corporations stayed away. This limited their ability to exploit Pride to sell their goods and capitalism itself.

On the other hand, there were a lot of anti-Trump messages, including even a call to deport Trump to CECOT in the place of the Gay Venezualan sent there by “mistake.” Near the head of the parade was “Operation Resist” in opposition to Trump’s efforts to witch-hunt LGBTQ folks out of the military. This sort of thing shows the potential for splits in the military itelf that could limit Trump’s efforts to play auto-coup games and could be decisive if the US blows apart.

DC Dyke March takes to the streets

On D-Day the Sixth of June 2025, the DC Dyke March took to the streets in opposition to the Fascism of Donald Trump and his minions.

The Dyke March is always political and progressive but the situation this year is dire. The very existance of our LGBTQ+ community is under physical threat in such places as Florida and probably nationwide.

Thus the “Dykes against Fascism” lead banners

Scenes from Bonus Army 2025 D-Day Veteran’s protest at US Capitol

On June 6, 1944 the D-Day invasion of Nazi Germany smashed down the gates of Fascism in Europe.

On June 6, 2025 US military veterans gathered at the US Capitol bluntly condemning Donald Trump as a repeat of Adolf Hitler and all that the D-Day veterans fought against. The efforts by DOGE to privatize VA healthcare and generally throw veterans under the bus were singled out for a lot of attention by speakers.

It was pointed out however that in the past protests against similar proposals were never held on such anniversaries as D-Day or Pearl Harbor Day. This time around, the renewed Fascist menace of Donald Trump spurred Veterans to deliberately invoke D-Day for the Bonus Army of 2025.

The original Bonus Army camped on the Mall after FDR refused to pay delayed bonuses owed to WWI veterans due to the Depression. FDR had the Bonus Army fired upon with live ammunition instead of considering meeting their demands that old promises be kept.

Note that as a lifelong student of WWII history and given I see the current conflict in the US as an attempt by Fascists to refight WWII, D-Day is a very, very big deal to me as well and in fact this is one of the reasons I am in DC right now.

Protesters near Lakeland-Linder International Airport demand Avelo Airlines DROP their ICE contract

On the 31st of May, one of 26 simultanious protests against Avelo Airlines and their ICE contract took place at the side of the road leading to Lakeland-Linder International Airport. This is Lakeland Florida’s commercial airport and Avelo flies from it.

Protesters did not enter the airport itself, deeming the environment unsafe and escape too difficult if police or security got violent. As it was, police circled but did not engage.

In addition to flying civilian air passengers, Avelo Airlines flies planes full of shackled prisoners being deported by ICE. They make big money on this contract. If people refuse to fly Avelo on account of this contract though, it could cost them even more money than the contract is worth. Avelo is already in financial difficulty, an effective boycott could ground them for good.

Celebrating the 5th anniversary of the burning of the 3ed Precinct in Minneapolis

5 years ago tonight, residents of Minneapolis took heavy retribution for the murder of George Floyd by a cop from the 3ed Precinct. Protesters drove off the cops, stormed the building, captured riot gear and other items useful throughout the Uprising, then burned the building to the ground. Since no prisoners were liberated by the teams that stormed the building, presumably cops had moved them knowing the precinct could not be defended

Where I am a celebratory bonfire wasn’t practical because thunderstormed soaked all the firewood, but I have an alternate video for you all.

This is a mix of several Unicorn Riot videos from the night the precinct burned, set to some music that captures the mood of those first Nights of Fire.

Pro-Palestine activists in Orlando remember Aaron Bushnell, Palestinian martyrs

On the 26th of May, Memorial Day 2025, Orlando’s pro-Palestine activists gathered at the Battle of the Bulge memorial at Lake Eola Park. Included among them were a number of military veterans.

A display and speakers honored Aaron Bushnell, recognized throughout Palestine as a US martyr for his self-immolation in front of the Israeli Embassy last year. Attendees also remembered all of Palestine’s other martyrs, entirely too many of them children killed by IOF bombs.

The conclusion of the speaking program was followed by a silent march all the way around Lake Eola.

DC/Arlington: Citizens Persist at Tesla Takedowns; Pace For Long Race Hard Road

Arlington, Va—As the weekly Saturday boycott line began winding down, Lawrence MacDonald read a list of issues over a bullhorn to about 50 who were compelled to return to week 17 of the Arlington Tesla Takedown. “Medicaid! he shouted, “Hands Off!” the group responded. “Social Security!” “Hands off!” they repeated. “Due process!…” He continued down his mental list of the many government agencies, services, and rights already hacked to pieces by Musk’s so called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and after each one they respond as if dutifully bound, “Hands off!” When he ran out of issues others shouted their reasons for being there. This went on for a while.

In the street behind them, passing motorists continued honking and partially drowning out their replies. A truck blasted its airhorn drowning them out altogether for a few moments. Someone cheered back, “Woooo Hoooo!” This delayed MacDonald’s closing comments further but gave an opening for others to speak.

With the passing months, the motorists have gotten much more into the mix of people dancing with joy, waving and cheering, reading the signs and their weekly Tesla Takedown boycott message outside the showroom on South Glebe Road. Many motorists seem to expect them to be there and have laid the sauce on thick with honking and thumbs up, sometimes disturbing the residents nearby.
